Biography

Anna graduated from The Create Institute as an expressive arts therapist in 2019. She has several years experience working at an agency co-facilitating groups with women and gender-diverse individuals who have experienced violence, using arts and mindfulness. At the same time, she has completed  Sensorimotor Psychotherapy training for Trauma Level 1, and has earned a certificate from the Sarana Institute in Mindfulness + Compassion Training for Health, End-Of-Life and Long Term Care Professionals.

Anna deeply believes that expressive arts therapy (exa) can help connect us to our inner knowing.  Along with the capacity to bring increased mindfulness, exa allows us to express and explore what may not have words attached to it or cannot be expressed explicitly. As we externalize something through creative expression, we have the opportunity to look at it afresh, to dialogue with it and to get to know it. Exa holds opportunities for surprise as we get to know ourselves and can deepen our process of healing through creative modalities.

She offers in-person and online sessions, and is supervised by a registered psychotherapist.  Her training in two therapies that are “bottom up” approaches, starting with the senses and the body, animate her sessions.  Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) can help us process trauma and emotions that can be stored in the body. It can also help us notice how we organize our experience through movement, internal sensations, thoughts etc. Exa and (SP) both integrate top-down (cognitive) strategies as well.

After gaining several years’ experience, Anna is beginning her own private practice. With her love of both ideas (academic past) and creativity (with creative writing courses and movement in her past), she is delighted to have landed in expressive arts therapy.
